Robert Schumann (1838)

Description

This piece depicts a momentous event from a child's point of view, rendered with exaggerated, march-like gestures that adults would find charming. A dotted-rhythm theme is stated with mock solemnity throughout. Though brief, it contains a relatively dense 440 notes and calls for a firm, rhythmically precise touch.

A suite of 13 pieces Schumann composed in 1838, including "Träumerei," evoking an adult's poetic recollection of childhood.
