Description
Composed in 1817, this sonata is understood to be a reworking of an earlier draft in D-flat major, transposed to E-flat and expanded with an additional movement. Beyond its expansive major-key sound, the revision gives each movement a more clearly defined character. At about twenty-eight minutes and over fourteen thousand notes, it requires the expressive control to trace its shifting moods across a substantial span, suiting advanced players.
