Description
This three-voice ricercar comes from The Musical Offering, which Bach is said to have presented to Frederick the Great in 1747 after improvising on a theme the king had given him during a visit. With only three voices, the texture remains relatively transparent while still packing in dense contrapuntal writing and rich harmonic language. It is a substantial, rewarding work for advanced pianists.
