Description
This is the fingering exercise placed at the very beginning of the notebook Bach compiled for his son Wilhelm Friedemann. It is thought to represent Bach's first step in keyboard instruction, focused on basic ornamentation and finger technique. Though it lasts only about twenty seconds, it offers a glimpse into the pedagogical thinking that would later inform his more elaborate teaching pieces.
