Description
This set of twelve waltzes was written in 1827 during Schubert's visit to Graz, giving the collection its nickname. The pieces draw on Vienna's dance culture with simple, appealing melodies suited for practical ballroom use. Each waltz is brief, creating a sense of quickly shifting scenes across the set, which runs close to ten minutes in full and carries something of the spontaneous character of music conceived while traveling.

Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
Franz Schubert was a Vienna-born composer who died at only 31 but left behind a vast body of work, especially in the field of Lieder. Known for his gift for melody and subtle modulation, songs such as "Erlkonig" remain widely performed today. His piano works, including the Impromptus, are equally rich in lyricism.
