Invention No.5 in E-flat major unfolds a flowing melodic line over soft, warm harmonies. Both hands imitate the subject on equal footing, requiring the performer to maintain a steady tempo while singing out each voice distinctly. Despite its short duration, the note density places it among the more demanding inventions.
