Description
Placed first among Bach's fifteen Two-Part Inventions, this C major piece is friendly and approachable. Its simple rising-and-falling figure is imitated and exchanged between the two hands, clearly reflecting its pedagogical purpose of teaching contrapuntal independence. Moderate in tempo, it is often the first invention many piano students encounter as they learn to move their hands independently.
