Description
"Jugendfreuden" (Youth's Joys) is a set of six sonatinas, Op. 163, that Diabelli wrote for young students, and this piece is the first movement of Sonatina No. 1. It has the brisk character typical of an opening sonatina movement, packing 907 notes into just over a minute. Within its clear Classical structure, it calls for combining lightness with a steady rhythmic feel, at a fairly advanced level for a pedagogical piece.

Anton Diabelli (1781-1858)
Anton Diabelli (1781-1858) was an Austrian composer and music publisher. He is best remembered for the waltz theme that inspired Beethoven's monumental Diabelli Variations. Diabelli also wrote a large body of educational piano pieces, and this site features 32 of his works, including selections from his '28 Melodische Übungsstücke.'
