This fourth movement closes Sonatina No. 1, a substantial finale lasting just over two minutes with 1,569 notes. Its writing seems to draw together elements from the preceding three movements, requiring the player to maintain both steady tempo and expressiveness through to the end. It is an educational work with the formal beauty characteristic of the Classical style.

Anton Diabelli (1781-1858) was an Austrian composer and music publisher. He is best remembered for the waltz theme that inspired Beethoven's monumental Diabelli Variations. Diabelli also wrote a large body of educational piano pieces, and this site features 32 of his works, including selections from his '28 Melodische Übungsstücke.'
