Description

No. 6 from Songs Without Words, Op. 30, the second "Venetian Gondola Song." Its melancholic F-sharp minor tone evokes a nighttime Venetian scene distinct from the first. The steady rocking pulse of a barcarolle runs throughout, spreading a quiet, wistful feeling across about two and a half minutes. Comparing it with the first gondola song reveals the depth Mendelssohn found within this one form.

A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.

About the Composer

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) was a leading composer of the German Romantic era, celebrated as a child prodigy and instrumental in reviving interest in the then-neglected music of Bach.
