Description
The best known of the Six Consolations, in D-flat major. A dreamlike, flowing melodic line is supported by delicate arpeggiated accompaniment, in what is often considered the purest expression of Liszt's lyrical side. It condenses a quiet beauty into about four minutes. Playing it well calls for the technique to make its arpeggios ripple smoothly.
Six meditative piano pieces Liszt composed around 1849-50, calm and introspective in character.
