Description
The first of Liszt's Six Consolations, S.172. With a gently singing melody, simple harmonic progressions, and a short length of about a minute and a half, it is one of the more approachable pieces in Liszt's output. It carries a lyricism reminiscent of Chopin's nocturnes. Its melody unfolds like a gentle, intimate address that lingers in the listener's memory.

Franz Liszt (1811-1886)
Franz Liszt was a Hungarian-born virtuoso pianist and composer whose legendary performances earned him fame across Europe as the "wizard of the piano." Beyond his transcendent technique, he was also an innovative composer who created the symphonic poem as a genre, and he is equally remembered for meditative miniatures like the Consolations and dramatic works like the Ballades.
