Description
Composed in 1853, late in Schumann's life, this set of three sonatas was written for young piano students. The pieces grow gradually in scope and expressive range, reflecting Schumann's practical concern for music education in the home, while still carrying his characteristic harmonic richness and shifting moods. At around eleven minutes and over six thousand notes for the complete set, performing all three together requires more technique and stamina than any single piece within it might suggest.

Robert Schumann (1810-1856)
