Description
Written in 1846, this set of three mazurkas is among the last that Chopin published during his lifetime. Its mature, somewhat austere emotional character still retains the essential dance energy of the mazurka form. The melodies carry a nostalgic quality expressed through Chopin's fully developed compositional voice, leaving a lasting impression on the listener, particularly through the introspective second piece.

Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849)
Frederic Chopin was born in Poland and made his career in Paris, remaining unusual among great composers for writing almost exclusively for piano. He poured his longing for his homeland into mazurkas and polonaises, while his ballades and etudes combine poetic melody with harmonic innovation.
