Description
Composed around 1836 without an opus number, this F-sharp major mazurka has a more private, informal character than Chopin's carefully polished published sets. Its sharp key lends a particular brightness to the dance's rolling triple meter, and at around three and a half minutes it is somewhat longer than many of his other mazurkas. The piece offers a glimpse of Chopin writing outside the constraints of formal publication, with an unusually wide range of expressive markings for a work of its kind.

Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849)
Frederic Chopin was born in Poland and made his career in Paris, remaining unusual among great composers for writing almost exclusively for piano. He poured his longing for his homeland into mazurkas and polonaises, while his ballades and etudes combine poetic melody with harmonic innovation.
