Description
A prelude by the short-lived Russian composer Alexei Stanchinsky, built on the Lydian church mode to create a distinctive floating sonority unlike ordinary major or minor tonality. Running over six and a half minutes, its mysterious harmonies recall his contemporary Scriabin, making it well suited to intermediate players already comfortable with modal writing.

Alexei Stanchinsky (1888-1914) was a Russian composer who died at just 26. Trained at the Moscow Conservatory, he wrote piano preludes with harmonically adventurous language reminiscent of Scriabin, though his early death left his full potential unrealized.
