Description
One of Pachelbel's fugues based on the Magnificat tones, originally composed as liturgical organ music. A single subject is passed between voices in the traditional contrapuntal manner typical of the Baroque period. Brief and intermediate in difficulty, it serves as a useful study in basic Baroque fugal writing.
Contrapuntal works influenced by Bach, where each composer's individuality shines through a strict formal structure.

Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) was a German Baroque composer and organist. While best known today for his 'Canon,' he was also a significant composer of chorale preludes and fugues for keyboard, influencing the Bach family of musicians.
