Description
The second of Mendelssohn's Three Fantasies (or Caprices), Op. 16, this Scherzo in E minor has a light, fairy-like agility that anticipates the fantastical atmosphere of his later "A Midsummer Night's Dream" music. Its length of over seven minutes and dense note count call for the nimble, advanced technique needed to bring it off. The key challenge is keeping a light touch while driving through its fast passagework.
