Description
Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, from Book 8 of Grieg's Lyric Pieces (Op. 65 No. 6), is said to have been written to mark the composer's own wedding anniversary at his home, Troldhaugen. It opens with a festive, march-like theme, moves through a more lyrical middle section, and returns to a brilliant close. At six minutes and over 3,800 notes, it demands the virtuosic technique expected of an advanced player.
A lifelong project by Grieg spanning 10 books and 66 pieces, reflecting Norwegian landscapes and folk music throughout.

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907)
Edvard Grieg was a composer from Bergen, Norway, and a leading figure of musical nationalism who drew on Nordic folk music. Widely known for his incidental music to Peer Gynt and his Piano Concerto in A minor, he also wrote the Lyric Pieces, a lifelong series of intimate, folk-inspired piano miniatures.
