Description
This Fantasia in D minor, dating from around 1782, is well known for its striking opening arpeggios. Mozart left it unfinished, and the ending commonly performed today was supplied by a later composer. It alternates between improvisatory freedom and singing melodic passages, demanding a wide expressive range from advanced players. At close to six minutes with over 1,700 notes, it calls for a natural sense of flow when shifting between its contrasting tempos.
