Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788)
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, a son of Johann Sebastian Bach, served as court harpsichordist to Frederick the Great of Prussia before becoming music director in Hamburg. He was a pioneer of the expressive, improvisatory Empfindsamer Stil and influenced later composers including Haydn and Beethoven. This site features his Rondo in E-flat major, H. 288.
