This piece was reportedly withheld from publication during Chopin's lifetime and only appeared after his death, edited by his friend Julian Fontana. It is built on a persistent polyrhythm of right-hand quadruplets against left-hand triplets, interrupted by a lyrical, song-like middle section. Performing it well demands a steady pulse and fluid fingerwork throughout.

Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849)
