Description

This is the third movement of a Sonata in G major by the Bohemian composer Jiří Antonín Benda. Active during the transition from the pre-Classical to Classical era, Benda is known for clear melodies and a light, galant touch. This finale, built on a brisk tempo and broken-chord accompaniment, offers intermediate players a good introduction to early Classical style.

About the Composer

Jiří Antonín Benda (1722-1795)

Jiri Antonin Benda was a member of the Benda family of Bohemian composers and served for many years as court Kapellmeister in Gotha, Germany. He is historically significant as a pioneer of melodrama, combining spoken text with music, while also composing instrumental works including keyboard sonatas. This site features the third movement of his Sonata in G major.
