About the Composer

Béla Bartók (1881-1945)

Bela Bartok was a Hungarian composer also renowned as an ethnomusicologist. He collected and studied folk songs from across Eastern Europe, incorporating their melodies and rhythms into his own music, making him one of the twentieth century's leading nationalist composers. His Romanian Folk Dances are among his best-known results of this work. This site features the second dance, "Peasant Costume."
