Description
This is one of Bach's seven early toccatas, set in the unusual key of F-sharp minor among that group. It unfolds in a multi-sectional, quasi-improvisatory structure, moving from a free introduction through contrasting tempos into a grand concluding fugue. At roughly thirteen minutes and 4,147 notes, it stands as one of the most demanding large-scale advanced works in the collection.
Keyboard works with an improvisatory character, alternating between virtuosic passages and contrapuntal sections.
