Description
This is the fugue portion of Bach's Chromatic Fantasia and Fugue, a work Bach's biographer Forkel famously called a unique masterpiece. Its long, intricate chromatic subject is passed between voices, and as it develops, strict contrapuntal writing gradually gives way to freer, fantasia-like passages. It is a demanding piece combining virtuosic technique with deep expressive range.
