Description
This pas de deux comes from Act 1 of Adolphe Adam's 1841 Romantic ballet Giselle, accompanying the tender scene between the heroine and Albrecht. Adam's flowing melodic lines and waltz-like rhythm capture the innocence and warmth of new love. At an intermediate level, it offers a rewarding introduction to the elegant pacing and phrasing typical of ballet music.

About the Composer
Adolphe Adam (1803-1856)
Adolphe Adam was a French composer best known for his Romantic ballet masterpiece Giselle. A student of Boieldieu at the Paris Conservatoire, he wrote more than forty operas and ballets emphasizing melodic charm and dramatic effect. He is also remembered as the composer of the Christmas carol "O Holy Night." This site features the Pas de deux from Act 1 of Giselle.
