Composer
Johann Anton André
1775-1842
Johann Anton André was a composer and music publisher in Offenbach, Germany. He took over the André firm founded by his father Johann André, and in 1799 bought most of Mozart's manuscript estate from Constanze, the composer's widow. He was also a teacher and theorist, and wrote clear, classical-style piano music for learners. This site has his Sonatine, Op. 34, No. 1, long included in teaching collections such as the Sonatina Album. The Mutopia Project edition credits his father Johann (1741-1799), but the set is generally attributed to the son.
