Description
Written in 1853, near the very end of Schumann's compositional career, this set of seven pieces employs the fughetta, or short fugue, form throughout. Its contrapuntal writing reflects Schumann's deep late-life engagement with Bach. Lasting around eighteen minutes, the set has a quiet, contemplative character.
