Description
Composed in 1845, during a period when Schumann and his wife Clara were intensively studying Bach's counterpoint, this set of four fugues shows the Romantic composer's serious engagement with classical contrapuntal writing, weaving multiple independent voices into his piano music. At around twelve minutes and over four thousand three hundred notes, it demands the technique to maintain the independence of each voice while playing, suiting advanced pianists.
