Description
This fantasia was composed in 1813 when Schubert was still in his mid-teens. Built around the dark colors of C minor, it moves through a series of dramatic contrasts that already hint at the large-scale fantasias he would write later in life. At about fourteen minutes, it is a densely written work for such an early piece.
Piano works with a free, improvisatory character, ranging from Bach to Chopin and Beethoven, each shaped by imaginative, fantasy-like ideas.

Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
Franz Schubert was a Vienna-born composer who died at only 31 but left behind a vast body of work, especially in the field of Lieder. Known for his gift for melody and subtle modulation, songs such as "Erlkonig" remain widely performed today. His piano works, including the Impromptus, are equally rich in lyricism.
