Description
Composed in 1885, when Satie was still a teenager, this is an early piano work predating the concise, ironic style he later became known for. It retains traces of the fashionable salon waltz idiom of the time, with a somewhat sentimental, decorative melodic line. Though only about two minutes long, its dense note count demands rhythmic control from advanced players.

Erik Satie was a French composer from Honfleur who worked in Montmartre's cabarets while pursuing a highly individual musical aesthetic. Known for spare, understated music and whimsically titled works, he later influenced minimalist and ambient music.
