Description
Composed in 1789 during Mozart's visit to Potsdam, this set of variations is based on a minuet by the cellist Jean-Pierre Duport. The elegant, dance-like theme is developed through nine variations ranging from delicate ornamentation to more forceful passages. At about eight minutes with over 4,600 notes, it tests a range of techniques for advanced players.
