One of Chopin's great late masterpieces, this barcarolle evokes the rocking rhythm of a Venetian gondolier's song in F-sharp major. Rich harmonies and voice-like thirds and sixths suggest a vocal duet, building gradually across nearly nine minutes toward an impassioned climax. Unusually expansive for a single continuous piece in Chopin's output, it demands both refined technique and sustained musical shaping from advanced players.

Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849)
Frederic Chopin was born in Poland and made his career in Paris, remaining unusual among great composers for writing almost exclusively for piano.
