Description
This late set of six pieces was dedicated to Clara Schumann. Among them, the A major intermezzo is especially beloved for its warm, enveloping melody. The set as a whole favors tone color and pacing over technical brilliance, radiating the subdued, autumnal beauty characteristic of Brahms's final piano works. Composed in 1893, it runs about forty-four minutes with over 19,000 notes. Despite being grouped among his shorter piano pieces, the set spans a wide expressive range, calling for the subtle tone control and sustained concentration expected at an advanced level.

Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)
