Carmen - Prelude

Georges Bizet

DifficultyAdvanced
Duration2:44
Notes1,888

Description

This is a piano arrangement of the Prelude to Bizet's opera 'Carmen.' It opens with a brilliant, festive theme evoking the excitement of the bullring before giving way to the ominous 'fate' motif, creating a striking dramatic contrast that seems to foreshadow the opera's tragic ending. Capturing the orchestra's color on piano requires fast passagework and wide dynamic range, making this an advanced-level piece.

A collection of preludes not tied to a specific set, featuring short, evocative works by composers from Bach to more modern voices.
