Description
Written in 1821, this variation was Schubert's contribution to a project organized by the publisher Anton Diabelli, who invited numerous composers to each write a variation on a waltz theme of his own composition. Lasting only about a minute and a half with roughly seven hundred and fifty notes, it is very brief, yet packs a witty musical idea into its short span.

Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
Franz Schubert was a Vienna-born composer who died at only 31 but left behind a vast body of work, especially in the field of Lieder. Known for his gift for melody and subtle modulation, songs such as "Erlkonig" remain widely performed today. His piano works, including the Impromptus, are equally rich in lyricism.
