Description
This early Clementi collection combines three piano duets with three sonatas. Written around 1773 when the composer was still young, it already shows glimpses of the Classical balance and light, agile passagework that would define his mature style. Lasting roughly seven and a half minutes across its several short movements, it calls for an advanced player able to shift character smoothly between sections.
Sonatas across a range of instrumentations, including piano parts from violin sonatas, spanning Classical to Romantic styles.
About the Composer
Muzio Clementi (1752-1832)
Muzio Clementi was born in Rome and moved to England while still young, building a career in London as a pianist, composer, and instrument manufacturer. Often called the "father of the pianoforte," he wrote the study collection Gradus ad Parnassum and numerous sonatinas that remain staples of piano pedagogy. This site includes 36 of his pieces, including variations on nursery tunes and short works based on themes by Haydn and Mozart.
