Description
Known as the "Marches militaires," this set of three marches was composed in 1822, originally for piano four hands. The first march in particular remains one of Schubert's most beloved tunes, frequently heard in solo piano arrangements. Brisk dotted rhythms alternate with a more lyrical middle section, and the roughly four-minute set offers an appealing balance of energy and melodic warmth.

Franz Schubert (1797-1828)
Franz Schubert was a Vienna-born composer who died at only 31 but left behind a vast body of work, especially in the field of Lieder. Known for his gift for melody and subtle modulation, songs such as "Erlkonig" remain widely performed today. His piano works, including the Impromptus, are equally rich in lyricism.
