Description
Composed in 1919 during Satie's later years, this set of nocturnes differs from the light textures of his famous Gymnopédies and Gnossiennes, instead favoring chromatic harmony and a meditative, introspective mood. The music evokes quiet nocturnal scenes, asking the performer to bring out subtle shifts of color within its deceptively simple notation.

Erik Satie (1866-1925)
Erik Satie was a French composer from Honfleur who worked in Montmartre's cabarets while pursuing a highly individual musical aesthetic. Known for spare, understated music and whimsically titled works, he later influenced minimalist and ambient music.
