Description
This set of seven pieces alternates capriccios with intermezzi, forming one of Brahms's late collections for solo piano. The contrast between the stormy capriccios and the more meditative intermezzi is a defining structural feature, giving the set a wide emotional range. Despite its concise writing, the music carries the deep feeling typical of Brahms's final creative period.

About the Composer
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)
Johannes Brahms was a composer born in Hamburg who rose to prominence after being championed by Robert and Clara Schumann, later settling in Vienna. He fused classical formal rigor with Romantic expressiveness across symphonies and chamber music, and in his later years wrote many introspective piano miniatures.
