Description
Dukas's Villanelle carries a pastoral, idyllic character throughout. Rich impressionist harmonies color a piece that moves from quiet, atmospheric passages toward more technically demanding climaxes. Its length and density of notes call for the stamina and expressive control expected of an advanced pianist.
A broad collection of standalone piano pieces not belonging to any specific set, offering hundreds of varied character pieces to explore and compare.

About the Composer
Paul Dukas (1865-1935)
Paul Dukas (1865-1935) was a French composer and influential teacher at the Paris Conservatoire. He is best known for the orchestral showpiece 'The Sorcerer's Apprentice,' though he was a harsh self-critic who destroyed many of his own manuscripts and left a relatively small body of work. This site features his piece 'Villanelle.'
